Coherent Backscattering from Fluctuations of an Anisotropy Parameter

The problem of coherent backscattering of light from a system of point anisotropic scatterers is considered. The angular dependence of the polarized component is shown to be the same as in the case of isotropic scatterers. The depolarized component exhibits a small minimum in the range of angles near 180°, which is caused by the contribution of cyclic diagrams, as distinct from the peak in the isotropic scatterer case. The obtained results are verified experimentally. Coherent backscattering from a disordered liquid crystal, consisting of domains with random local ordering, is measured. The calculated results are shown to agree with experimental data.
