On Mechanism of Population Transfer to Ungerade Ion-Pair States of I_(2) Molecule

We discuss the population transfer to the D 0_(u)~(+) and F 0_(u)~(+) ungerade ion-pair states of the I_(2) molecule upon optical excitation of the E 0_(g)~(+) and f 0_(g)~(+) gerade states by the optical-optical double resonance method. This effect is explained by multiphoton ionization of iodine vapor and subsequent collisions with photoelectrons.
