Laser Spectroscopy of the 2v3 Band of Methane

A tunable NaCl : OH laser (1.6–1.7 μm) is used to measure the Doppler-broadened 2v3 vibrational absorption band of methane and the absolute values of the linear absorption coefficient. The values of the vibrational moment = –0.031 and the effective rotational constants B = 5.174 cm–1 (for the R- and P-branches) and B = 5.234 cm–1 (for the Q-branch) in the 2v3 state are determined from experimental data.
