Gaussian beam zoom converter consisting of movable three-component

It is proposed a novel three-component zoom converter for the use of Gaussian beam. This optical system can change continuously the beam waist size keeping its axial position always fixed. It satisfies three conditions; (1) the whole system is afocal, (2) two reference planes are conjugate to each other and (3) beam waist in the input space is set at the reference plane. Zooming loci of respective movable components are governed by linear simultaneous equations. Their analytical solutions are derived together with a numerical example.
