摘要

We present an unconventional explanation of the working principles behind diffraction gratings. By viewing gratings as delay line diffractive arrays, the intensity profiles generated by their outputs can be explained within the context of sampled periodogram estimates. Furthermore, this approach lends itself naturally to the possibility of using spatially modulated grating structures (binary temporal holograms) for arbitrary, phase-coherent temporal filtering of optical signals. We propose such structures in this paper. [References: 14]
