摘要

Grafting of cotton fibers by methylemethacrylate monomer (MMA) was carried out using Fe (II), Ni (II), Co (II) and Cu (II) tetracarboxylate phthalocyanine soluble complexes as initiators. Yield % grafting was investigated with respect to complex compound concentration for each transition metal, and the Fe (II) complex was found to exhibit the highest activity in the series. Attachment approach of complex compound molecules to the cellulose chain and a mechanism of grafting are proposed, based on the accessibility of the process towards a reversible one-electron redox reaction availability. The results suggest that the Fe (II) phthalocyanine complex claims the function of a redox system during the grafting polymerization process of MMA onto cellulose.
