Experience from the look AHEAD study

The Look AHEAD (Actions for Diabetes in Health) Trial is a large NIH-sponsored multicenter trial asking whether the incidence myocardial infarction, stroke, and cardiovascular death can be reduced in a group of subjects with diabetes through lifestyle changes in diet and physical activity. The Look AHEAD program randomized subjects into two groups: usual care and an intensive lifestyle program. Those subjects undergoing the intensive lifestyle program were enrolled in a weight-loss program that necessitated changes in management of diabetes. The following case report illustrates the challenges that weight management presents for the management of diabetes.
