The last two decades have been marked by a new vision of how researchers and practitioners work together in order to better address the health and social issues that societies are confronting today. Researchers are becoming more concerned with how to build bridges with practitioners and local communities to embark upon understanding issues and concerns of daily life while attempting to identify promising, sustainable solutions. In occupational therapy, Kielhofner proposed the Scholarship of Practice framework (see Kielhofner, 2001; Kielhofner, 2002) conceptualized as the close relationship and ongoing dynamic interplay between theoretically driven generation of knowledge and knowledge generated from practice and people in the community. To that end, knowledge creation was designed to inform practice and practice informs knowledge creation (Hammel et al., 2002). Thus, our challenge, and a challenge to the profession of occupational therapy, is to create scholars of practice, who can generate new research and evidence about practice, as well as practice scholars, who can then change actual practice to meet changing needs and priorities of community members.
