As the Borden Royal Commission on the oil and gas industry returns to Alberta in May for a second session of hearings,Alberta Premier Ernest Manning fires a salvo across the bow of the federal government.The federal government,he tells the Borden Commission,must take immediate steps to expand the market for Canadian crude oil into the Montreal refining market-which is currently existing on a steady diet of imported crude-or risk"serious danger to the stability and development of the oil industry and allied industries,loss of revenue for municipal,provincial,and federal governments,a continuing adverse effect on Canada's trade balance with the United States...and a serious danger to Canada's national security,"Oilweek reported in its May 23 edition.
