Cancer and life course of patients: How to insure a solidarity-based accompaniment? Part I - What are insufficiently covered needs of cancer patients?

Despite the unquestionable diagnostic and therapeutic advances in cancer patients during the last fifteen years, their accompaniment has to be better formalized to improve their autonomy and their dignity. The French Red Cross and the regional cancer network ONCOLOR have conducted an observational and prospective study in Lorraine during 2012-2013 to evaluate the daily and personal needs of the patients and their close relatives, and the available resources. The study is based on 936 anonymous autoquestionnaires, with a very high response rate on the lack of medical, social, administrative information, and psychological support; the frequent poor organization of return D. Moreover, we have reviewed the misunderstanding of the network of specific interlocutors according to the needs and their severity. Our analysis has also reviewed the relationship between the psychological status of cancer patients and their families, their friends, and also the attitude of their close relatives.We observed that there is a significant relation between the psychological status of patients and their caregivers. Also, we found that the implementation of news structures of coordination based on human needs and the development of numeric tools and social networks are necessary to improve the autonomy and the quality of life of cancer patients at home.
