Beach, Atco Link for Shale Gas

Beach Petroleum has set up a venture with Canada's Atco to explore opportunities to commercialize the Australian junior's unconventional gas resources in the Cooper Basin of central Australia. The work will cover shale gas acreage in the Nappamerri Trough, which Beach believes has the potential for a world-class resource of "many tens of trillions of cubic feet," Beach said Tuesday. The company is looking to employ in the Cooper Basin advanced engineering techniques such as horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing that have been used so successfully to develop US shale gas, Managing Director Reg Nelson said.
