Growing onions and carrots in the rich soil of the Holland Marsh in Ontario, Canada, is a privilege that Jason Verkaik doesn't take for granted. "My father and grandfather have been farming this land since 1934, so I'm carrying on a family tradition. They created a thriving farm; it's my job to keep it thriving moving forward." Verkaik is passionate about onions. It's in his blood, constantly in his thoughts, and he's determined that Carron Farms will farm, package and ship only the best onions. "Oldworld care and modern research," isn't just a marketing gimmick, it's a motto he truly believes. "My grandfather and his brothers immigrated to the Chatham (Ontario) area from Holland in the early 1930s, but in 1934 they purchased a parcel of land on the west side of the Holland Marsh," explains Verkaik. "They began clearing and farming the land that same year. Carrots and onions were grown right from the beginning."
