Ecuador Ends Perenco Contracts

Ecuador’s government has voided produc- tion contracts held by Anglo-French inde- pendent producer Perenco, a year after the government seized the firm’s fields during a contractual dispute. The government’s move affects Blocks 7 and 21 in the Ecuadorean Amazon and the Coca Payamino field in the Andean foothills. Petromazonas, an affiliate of state oil firm Petroecuador, has been operating those as- sets since last July. Petroamazonas seized the fields from Perenco after the foreign firm be- gan taking steps to suspend its production in Ecuador (OD Jul.21’09,p4).
