Encana, Canada’s biggest natural gas pro- ducer, reported a net loss on Wednesday while a drop in natural gas prices pushed operating profit well below expectations. The company’s shares fell 5% even though Encana boosted its production forecast, raised capital spending and lowered its costs. Cash flow exceeded expectations, boding well for its ability to fund a planned expan- sion of output in the coming years.
