摘要

Acting Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan will focus his remaining year in office on ensuring that the national election to be held in 2011 will be free and fair. “There are certain things that we can achieve” in a year, Jonathan said during a speech at the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington. “I’ve promised that the 2011 elections in Nigeria will be credible.” Jonathan was elected vice president of Nigeria in 2007 and assumed the office of acting president in February while Nigerian President Umaru Yar’Adua recovers from a serious illness. Jonathan will not be running for the presidency next year.
