After years of limited supply, the LNG shipping industry was supposed to thrive in 2009, on the back of a surge in output from new liquefaction plants. However, the global recession and subsequent demand destruction have reversed the trend before it could take hold. Financing problems and lowered expectations may shrink the order book and utilization rates for new vessels.
