Brazil Subsalt Well Falls Short

Although December reports suggested the Sabia-1 well testing the BM-S-22 block offshore Brazil successfully struck oil, well partners Exxon Mobil and Hess have said results weren't quite as cheery as suggested (OD Dec.17,p7). Both Exxon, which operates the block, and Hess said during their respective earnings releases over the past week that Sabia1 struck "non-commercial quantities of hydrocarbons" and was subsequently expensed. Brazil's Petrobras also holds a stake in the block.
