ONGC Wrests Operatorship of ONN-2003/1 from Partner Cairn

ONGC, for quite some time, has been pushing for a transfer of operatorship of the KG onland block KG-ONN-2003/1 and had shot out a detailed proposal building a strong case for the transfer. The operatorship was thereafter transferred from Cairn to ONGC. Cairn had tried its best to continue with the operatorship but eventually had to pass the baton to ONGC. The company had claimed that since bringing out the 'first oil' by 2017 or earlier was the prime consideration for the block, its relevant experience in the block would help in meeting the objective, and hence it should continue as the operator.
