Oman to stabilize oil production, but gas remains a worry

Following a steady rise in oil production since 2007 to 943,000 bpd last year, the Omani government has decided that the sultanate s output should be stabilized at about 1 mnbpd for the next 10-15 years. The country's main producer, Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) has been set a target of 600,000 bpd for 2019, to be sustained for the following ten years. Gas production could also rise, especially after the 1 bn cfd gas development at Khazzan comes on-stream in 2017; but there is growing concern in Oman at the likely steep rise in domestic gas consumption, especially for power generation and water desalination.
