Structure of the Bazhenov Formation Deposits: Consistent Patterns and Variability

The necessity for maintaining the oil production level in West Siberia stimulates development of new plays, including well known black-shale formations, from which oil is recovered in a limited amount at present. The Bazhenov formation is one of these strata. Periodical publications write much about the similarity of the Bazhenov formation and the North-American formations containing a so-called "shale" oil. There are opinions that introduction of western technologies will enable efficient development of the Bazhenov oil pools. In this context, there appears a question, how similar the Bazhenov formation and producing "shale" formations are.
