UAE tries to adapt to new economic and political realities

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is planning to increase its crude oil production capacity by 17% to 3.5 mn bpd. Its proven reserves appear more than ample to allow it to do so and it has already committed $70 bn to bring it about; but the undertaking is proving more difficult than anticipated and the initial target date of 2017 is no longer achievable. Sources there suggest a date of 2020, but even this may prove a struggle.
