A year ago, the goal of Gary Leach, president of The Explorers and Producers Association of Canada, in launching the EPAC Awards was to recognize the bread and butter of the Canadian oil and gas industry—the largely entrepreneurial junior and intermediate sector. This year, the second annual EPAC Awards (with ATB Corporate Financial Services back as the presenting sponsor) is almost a celebration of the sturdiness of a sector that many observers, given the dramatic fall in crude prices since the first awards were handed out, has suggested is most at risk. But the list of nominated juniors was the largest of the four categories, and the performance—and outlook—of those companies is a testament not just to the resiliency of the junior sector, but to the Canadian oil and gas business as a whole.
