XL PMI, XL PMI+ & XL PMI+ Ultra positive materials identification tools are announced as part of GE's partnership with Thermo Fisher Scientific. The X-ray fluorescence (XRF) instruments identify and analyze various metal alloys by their chemical composition , through nondestructive methods. 1 In oil and gas applications, models have one of the lowest levels of detection for silicon. Use is declared "the ideal way to predict corrosion in existing pipes and fittings in older refineries. A low silicon content reading (<0.1%) of the pipes helps determine when to replace system components before there is an accident."
