An Aframax oil tanker and a bulk carrier collided in the Singapore Strait on Tuesday, 25 May 2010, resulting in an oil spill. Initial reports indicate that the hull of the Malaysian oil tanker, the Bunga Kelana 3, suffered a 10-meter (33-foot) gash on its port side while transporting an almost full load of ultra-light crude oil known as Bintulu condensate. Fortunately, damage is limited to just one compartment of the double-hulled tanker. Even so, more than 18,000 barrels (756,000 gallons) of oil spilled from the tanker into the strait. The incident occurred roughly 13 kilometers (8 miles) offshore, southeast of the Changi East complex, home of Singapore's Air Force. Shipping in the busy waterway was not interrupted by the incident or the resulting oil spill.
