Millathane~R Millable Polyurethane for Demanding Applications

The chemistry of polyurethane rubber and explain how polyurethane rubbers differ from other urethane types such as liquid (castables) urethanes and thermoplastic urethanes (TPU). Comparisons with other common polymers will also be discussed, especially for key properties like tensile strength, abrasion resistance and oil resistance. Information will be presented on the two main types of urethanes, polyether and polyester, as well as properties of sulphur, peroxide and isocyanate cure systems. Compounding of polyurethane rubber for high hardness, for sponge and for compliance with FDA (food contact) regulations will be discussed, along with methods of stabilizing urethane compounds for UV and water exposure. Millable polyurethane rubber is used in many demanding industrial applications including belts and rollers for business machines, military applications requiring low temperature and abrasion resistance, automotive applications needing low temperature flexibility and resistance to air permeability, urethane rubber articles in food contact and other industrial molded goods requiring the properties of polyurethane rubber.
