RUSSIA PROPOSES 28.1 PERCENT DUTY ON CHINESE, BRAZILIAN STAINLESS STEEL PIPES

The Russian Industry and Trade Ministry is proposing a three-year, 28.1 percent duty on stainless steel pipes imported from China and Brazil, the ministry said in an official notice. The ministry said that an investigation carried out between December 13, 2007 and December 12, 2008 indicated that stainless steel pipe imports damaged the interests of Russia's own producers in the period 2004-2006: local producers saw their share of the domestic market for these pipes fall 15.5 percentage points in 2004-2006 and 2.4 pp in the first six months of 2007, compared with the same period of 2006. The market share of imported stainless steel pipes increased correspondingly.
