Breeding Chinese cabbage for resistance to abiotic environmental factors and phytopathogens.

Twenty-six cabbage cultivars and hybrids were evaluated under field and greenhouse conditions in Russia for cold resistance, resistance to bacterial black rot (Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris) and soft rot (Erwinia carotovora subsp. carotovora) and clubroot (Plasmodiophora brassicae), and vitamin C content. The following were found to be resistant to bacterial and soft rots: Chrysanthemum Heart, Sensui Kuoto Mizuna, Yantsai, Late Osaka and F1 Spring Sun 50. Chrysanthemum Heart, Da Bai Tsai, Late Osaka, Tai Sai, Yantsai and F1 TCX 4111 were relatively resistant to clubroot. Cold tolerance was most pronounced in Da Bai Tsai, Monument, Yantsai, Piorbai and Late Osaka. Accessions with high vitamin C contents were Chrysanthemum Heart and Sensui Kuoto Mizuna..
