Breeding and Seed Production of Chinese Cabbage in the Tropics and Subtropics

Tropical production of Chinese cabbage, one of East Asia's most important vegetables, was infeasible until the Asian Vegetable Research and Development Center (AVRDC) developed heat-tolerant, tropically adaptable cultivars. The bulletin documents AVRDC's research and provides fundamental guidelines for producing Chinese cabbage seeds in the tropics. Background information on the origin, distribution, evolution, and biosystematic relationships of the Chinese cabbage is followed by an overview of its general botany and reproductive biology.
