摘要

John Ward is in his mid-seventies now. He can look back with satisfaction on a lifetime pursuing his passion for making pots. There has always been a single-mindedness about his approach: he admits that his work has only changed quite subtly since he emerged on the ceramic scene in the early 1970s. He is a committed vessel maker but has never been a functional potter. As he puts it: 'I love the idea of the inside and the outside and the hollowness of it. It has potential even if you don't put things in it - it is almost like a cupped hand but I have never been drawn to things that are just a shape.'
