The Krasny Oktyabr steel plant in Volgograd plans to increase production of molten steel to 1 million-1.1 million tonnes in 2007, from the 753,200 tonnes it produced in 2005. "Overall, we plan to bring production of molten steel up to 1 million-1.1 million tonnes per year. The goal is attainable, as the solution to this problem is based on serious calculations and economic outlays," company chairman Igor Shamis told Interfax in an interview. Production will grow as the plant increases output of carbon and construction steels, merchant mill and flat products, he said.
