POLYUS GOLD POSTS H1 IFRS EARNINGS OF 132.4 dollars

Polyus Gold closed the first half of 2008 with net profit of 132.4 million dollars to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), the No. 1 Russian gold producer said in a financial report on October 2. The company had net losses of 74.9 million dollars in the first half of 2007. Analysts said in a consensus-forecast that they though Polyus would turn profit of 125 million dollars in the first half of 2008. Polyus said revenue growth was driven by significant growth in gold output (18.9 percent ), as well as favorable market conditions. Polyus Gold produced 559,000 ounces (17.4 tonnes) of refined gold in the first half of 2008, compared to 470,000 oz (14.6 tonnes) in the same period of last year. The company sold all gold produced in both periods. Gold prices in the global market rose 9.9 percent during the half.
