REAL ESTATE ASSET SALES THREATEN TO REIGNITE PROKHOROV-POTANIN CONFLICT

The sale of assets belonging to real estate firm Open Investments (OPIN) is threatening to reignite a conflict between erstwhile business partners and OPIN shareholders Vladimir Potanin and Mikhail Prokhorov. OPIN said in its earnings report to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) for 2008 that it sold a number of assets to partners of Potanin's In-terros, which owns 30 percent of OPIN, in the first half of 2009 "to finance current operating activity, top up liquidity and fulfill current borrowing obligations."
