All components of the scattering field of ferromagnetic steel pipes and their cross-section-average magnetization under elastic and plastic bending in Earth's magnetic field have been measured. An analysis of the results obtained on the basis of taking all the components of stresses and induced magnetoelastic increments of magnetization into account has shown that we can determine both the dimensions of plastic strain zones (PSZs) and strengthening zones (under large deflections) and the maximum stresses acting in bending by measuring the scattering field.
