In recent years there has been increasing interest in the technologies for reprocessing the various wastes and semiproducts of the metallurgical industry, which make it possible not only to obtain additional valuable components but also to free up the land areas that are used to store the wastes.In the zinc plants, one of the products of the metallurgical process is the clinker, in which up to 95 percent of the copper, noble metals, and iron is concentrated. The rare metals are also present in the clinker.We have performed laboratory and stand tests of the technology for reprocessing the copper clinker of the Zinc Plant of Amalyk Mining/Metallurgical Kombinat [AGMK]. The object of the study was the fine fraction (-16 mm) of the current-production clinker, containing, percent: 30 C, 2 Cu, 16.4 SiO_2, 6 CaO, 19.5 Fe, 8.4 S. In addition, the specimen contained about 3 g/tonne of gold and 260 g/tonne of silver.
