Results are presented from industrial tests of a new technology of rotary-kiln processing of cakes from electrolytic production of zinc in which chloride-containing reagents (sodium chloride and calcium chloride) are fed to the material through the discharge opening of the rotary kiln. Proportioning of the reagents in the range 2-10 kg per ton of cake loaded produced increased extraction of indium (by 10-12 percent) into sublimates and also reduced practically in half the content of the metal in the clinker. Some increase in the extraction of zinc, lead, and silver into sublimate is noted. The process of presublimation of metals at temperatures in the range 980-1100 deg C occurs so rapidly as to produce practically complete utilization of the chlorinating agent.
