In Ceramic Review 194, I wrote about experiments with a variety of glazes that were said to produce celadon blue glazes. Most were chosen from the new edition of the Ceramic Review Book of Clay and Glaze Recipes, and I relied on description of the appearance of the fired glaze rather than any analysis of the ingredients. As a further examination of those that were successful from my point of view, David Hewitt, who has devised his own glaze analysis computer program, put the recipes through his computer to convert them into formulae. He produced a comprehensive guide to each of the seven glazes including their chemical make up which, perhaps not surprisingly, reveals great similarities in chemical terms.
