Given the recent unravelling of much of ceramics education, it is good to be reminded of the collective energy and purpose that was behind the acclaimed Harrow Studio Pottery Course, and disheartening to remember that the course in its present day manifestation will be closing later this year. Tradition and Innovation: Five Decades of Harrow Ceramics showcases the eclectic forms that studio ceramic practice can take and, more importantly, how the right schooling can get you there. Yet, with its very success and longevity comes the impossible curatorial task of how best to represent not only an institution but a period of intense and diverse creativity.
