Synthesis of New Re(V) Coordination Compounds with Benzimidazole and Its Derivatives

We have prepared and isolated as solids previously unknown Re(V) coordination compounds with benzimidazole (L~1) and its derivatives, 2-(2-pyridyl)-benzimidazole (L~2) and 2-mercaptobenzimidazole (L~3) of the general formula (HL)_2[ReOX_5] and [ReOL_XX_Y(H_2O)_Z]X_K(K_2O)_n, where HL and L are the protonated and deprotonated forms of the ligand, X is the chloride or bromide ion, and x,y,z,n, and k are stoichiometric coefficients.
