1-(m-Nitrophenylsulfonyl)- and l-(p-nitrophenylsulfonyl)-l,3-butadienes in aqueous acetone in the presence of HCI and copper(I) or copper(II) chloride react with l-aryl-3,3-dimethyl-l-triaenes to form l-(m-nitrophenylsulfonyl)- and l-(p-nitrophenylsulfonyl)-4-aryl-3-chloro-l-butenes,respectively.l-(o-Nitro-phenylsulfonyl)-l,3-butadiene fails to react in similar conditions.
