Main Tasks and Future of Irrigation, Drainage and Reclamation Engineering in Japan

The Japanese Society of Irrigation, Drainage and Reclamation Engineering (JSIDRE) has been keenly interested in issues and problems related to the people, the environment and agriculture. This interest especially escalated about ten years ago becauseof social changes in the Japanese society, and beginnings of reform in our University system. In 1987, our JSIDRE society appointed "The Committee of the Vision in Future for Irrigation, Drainage and Reclamation Engineering" That committee published a report, the so-called "Creation of Fertile and Beautiful Area of Region". In order to realize this vision, JSIDRE appointed a second committee, "Committee of FORE 2050". This committee is now working energetically.
