In 1969, an arc-furnace plant, which was designed by the Leningrad branch (V.N. Mikhailovskii, chief engineer) of Gipromez, was put into operation at the Izhora works to provide various fields of engineering, in particular, atomic power engineering and shipbuilding, with high-quality steels. This plant included electroslag and vacuum-arc remelting furnaces. The furnaces and their units were designed at SKB VNIIETO. The OKB-1111 electroslag remelting furnace with an 8.0-MV A transformer and a capacity of 40 t was designed under the guidance of the leading specialists of this institute (Z.A. Gorynina, L.S. Katsevich, M.Yu. Baicher, Z.I. Gracheva). The DSV-11,2g37 vacuum-arc furnace with a 4.23-MV A transformer and a capacity of 37 t was designed under the guidance of A.I. Lugovoi, B.I. Izral'son, and B.B. Pel'ts [1]. The electric furnaces were assembled at and supplied by the Novosibirsk Electrothermal Equipment Plant.
