Reaction of Methane with Carbosilanes

We studied decomposition of a mixture of tetra-methylsilane and trimethylsilane on the surface of a carbon cord whose temperature was set in the range 350-600 deg C and maintained with an accuracy of +-10 deg C by varying the current passed through the cord.Experiments were performed in an evacuated quartz vessel with forced circulation of the starting silane over the cord surface.The pressure of the mixture of the silanes was set in the range 100-300 mm Hg.The results obtained with the chosen batch of carbon cord were reasonably reproducible.
