The paperdeals with an original study on the identification of chemicalnature of some binders from ancient easel-painting on wooden or textile support from private and public collections.The research establishes the consewation state of binders from the polychrome layers,using the gas-chromatographic techniques assisted by pyrolisis,with or without silylation.Natural binders were used as standards:egg,casein and animal glue,usually reported in the ancient painting techniques.The gas-chromatographic results allowed the establishment of the ageing rate of binders,an important archaeometric characteristics for the authentication of paintings.
