What drew you to studio ceramics? The money. I was told if I took the Hatfield job I may always be poor and without food but I'd never want for a plate to eat off. Which part of your job do you find most pleasurable? Working with the students. Their energy and enthusiasm are the driving force of the show. …and least? Two years ago it rained heavily for six hours on setting up day. Not pleasant. What item of ceramics do you most enjoy using in your everyday life? At the moment I'm using a Mark Dally cup and a John Butler mug and we're eating off Aki Moriuchi's and Jennifer Hall's tableware. Who or what has been a major influence on your career? My wife Diane. Mavericks like me need a strong partner.
