Each year the National Council of Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) in the United States holds its annual conference, a huge occasion of lectures, panels, exhibitions and meetings in which 'dreamers, thinkers, doers and makers' meet to discuss the current state of ceramics, past, present and future, The papers given at the 40th Annual Conference in Portland, Oregon are brought together in this volume, either in the form in which they were given or as a report. The anthology makes for fascinating reading. The collection seems aimed at those who were at the event rather than at a wider audience, although many of the articles are of national and even international interest.
