Traditional grinding methods are not always effective in processing hard-alloy saws (diameter 30-80 mm, thickness 0.2-0.6 mm) because they involve a high consumption of abrasive material and a high proportion of rejects. The manufacturing accuracy of the cutters is also poor, with deviations from planarity attaining 25%. To process these cutters, it is best to use combined diamond-electrochemical grinding DEG which combines microcutting by the diamond grains with electrochemical size processing. That method greatly reduces the cutting forces and the temperature in the working zone, which improves the accuracy and quality of the finished surfaces and also the lifespan of the grinding wheel.
