The second volume of this handsomely produced anthology bears out the promise of the first with a range of historical and research articles of special relevance to American ceramics. Divan the strong connection between Britain and the USA, several authors address the issue of pots made in England but imported into the USA. In one such article, Merry Abbitt Outlaw discusses a magnificent find, made in 1935, of a large assortment of seventeenth century north Devon decorated slipware vessels buried in Jamestown when production was at its peak. Both form and decoration are intimately combined. Ellen Paul Denker looks at the use of parian porcelain by American sculptors, who adapted this handsome material to their own subjects producing, among many other forms, a baseball vase.
