The high price regime for rubber, continuing for about five years has now raised a lot of enthusiasm in the Asian countries for expanding rubber cultivation. Thailand put under rubber 139,900 ha. in 2007 against 118,800 ha. in 2006. The country's new planting of 2005 was only 53,100 ha. Indonesia planted up 67,000 ha. apiece in 2006 and 2007, against 17,100 ha. in 2005. Myanmar is reported to have put under rubber 80,000 ha in 2007. Vietnam planted afresh 37,700 ha. in 2007 against 29,200 ha. in 2006 and 26,100 ha. in 2005. India planted new 20,000 ha. in 2007 against 19,000 ha in 2006. A total land of 700,000 ha. came under rubber during the past two years in the Asian region. Planting activities are progressing at an equally brisk pace in 2008.
