In this, the final stage of Galerie Besson's celebration of great women potters, Betty Woodman is showing ten colourful, casual, vibrant works, mostly made in the last decade, but backed up by a couple of pieces from the eighties. All this work was made in Italy; Woodman - one of the most eminent and spectacular American ceramic artists - is a woman with two studios, one in New York and one in Tuscany. I used to be able to tell which pieces were made where - the Italian ones having a slight reduction quality of soft lustrous greens and milky browns, like the Vase Diptych from 1982 exhibited here. The American ones used to be jazzier in colour, but now her brilliant painterly flow seems to have gone international. The newer works, such as the large wall piece Palazzo Massimo made especially for the Besson space, are vivid and extraordinary.
