Indian rupee finally gets its distinct symbol

Finally, India's currency, the Rupee, has got a symbol to represent it in the global arena. The Indian Cabinet has selected the new symbol for the Indian rupee designed by an Indian Institute of Technology postgraduate D Udaya Kumar. The symbol is an amalgam of the Devnagiri 'Ra' and the Ro- man capital 'R' without the stem, with two parallel lines running at the top.
